Remote Working, The new “normal” whatever that is..

With the start of 2021 comes a fresh round of variable global lockdowns, once again significantly impacting the way we go about our “normal” working lives.

Remote working was something that was loosely floated in the past with the biggest challenge to it being a lack of trust and transparency, employers never knew if their employee was really working, employees never knew if they were being kept in the loop so there was mistrust from both directions.

The concept actually has many benefits, it allows companies to expand their recruitment pool, removing geographical obstacles and challenges (such as working in London and other capital cities), it removes the daily stress and chaos of commuting theoretically giving a happier healthier workforce.

The employee should produce more, the employer should reduce costs, so what’s not to love with the concept?

Sadly we know that anticipation and reality are not words born as twins, and they rarely meet or match.

For many employees working remotely still leaves them feeling disconnected, they will work and produce but can feel empty and isolated, employees can use technology to track productivity but that really isn’t a productive form of communication.

We know that an engaged employee can increase personal productivity by up to 63%, the question is what do they need to engage or to re-engage?

There are some tremendous examples of companies caring out there and sadly there are more of company’s simply not, they believe that the employee is better off without travel time and costs and should be happy to be working in the current climate, which really is not totally unfair, its just uncaring and we know loyalty only comes when caring is driven as two way traffic.

Obviously companies have limited budgets and cannot set trends such as pampering and treating employees simply for working, however we know there is a far better option, that really does result in a win-win scenario.

At VOS we offer personalised 1-1 training and appraisals all conducted on line, so the company is investing in the mental well being of their employees and also assisting them in their development through these challenging time’s, in return they will receive greater engagement levels meaning greater productivity and loyalty, meaning this minor investment can be a major factor on bottom lines and targets etc.

Mental health & wellbeing are hugely significant in all walks of life today and we all know that the workplace is the biggest common factor that we all share.

So our call to employers on behalf of all of their teams is this, talk to us, the investment level will bring a smile to your faces and the outcome will bring a smile to you & your teams as well.

We all know the world is better place when we smile.
