The Three Sides of Every Sale: A Commercial Perspective

Sales is often reduced to a simple equation: a product, a buyer and a salesperson. In reality, every successful transaction is shaped by something far more complex.
Over many years working across hospitality, luxury real estate and branded residences, one observation has remained remarkably consistent. Every commercial decision is influenced by three distinct perspectives, each with different objectives, different pressures and different definitions of success.
Understanding these perspectives is one of the foundations of commercial excellence:
The first belongs to the organisation.
Every business seeks sustainable growth. It wants to protect profitability, strengthen its market position, maximise value and achieve predictable commercial performance. Pricing strategy, margins, cash flow, brand positioning and shareholder expectations all influence how the organisation approaches every opportunity.
The second perspective belongs to the buyer.
Whether purchasing a branded residence, selecting a hospitality partner or making any significant investment, buyers are not simply comparing prices. They are evaluating value, confidence and risk. They want reassurance that they are making the right decision, supported by an experience that justifies the investment and reflects the promises being made.
The third perspective belongs to the commercial team.
Too often this role is misunderstood. A successful salesperson is not simply there to persuade someone to buy. Their responsibility is far more demanding. They must represent the interests of the organisation while understanding the priorities of the buyer, building trust between both and guiding the conversation towards a mutually beneficial outcome.
When these three perspectives are aligned, commercial performance becomes significantly more predictable.
When they are not, friction begins to appear.
The organisation may focus exclusively on protecting margin while overlooking the buyer experience. Buyers may struggle to understand the true value being offered. Sales teams may find themselves negotiating without the commercial clarity, tools or authority required to build confidence.
In many organisations, these challenges are treated as separate issues.
At VOS, we see them as parts of the same commercial system.
This is why we speak about Commercial Architecture™ rather than sales alone. Sustainable commercial success is rarely created by improving one department in isolation. It comes from designing an environment where commercial strategy, buyer expectations and sales execution are aligned from the outset.
Every recommendation we make is viewed through these three perspectives.
How does this decision strengthen the developer's commercial objectives?
How does it improve confidence for the buyer?
How does it enable the commercial team to perform more effectively?
Only when all three questions are answered does commercial strategy become truly sustainable.
After decades of working with developers, hospitality brands and commercial teams around the world, one principle continues to prove itself.
Every organisation believes it understands sales.
The organisations that consistently outperform the market understand something much more important.
They understand perspective.
Because every successful sale is never viewed from one side alone.
It is built by understanding all three.
